Atman: Works of the Soul

Cooper Union Gallery - New York

2012

Atman was the first solo exhibition for Tyler Gathro. Atman is a term from ancient Sanskrit that means the essence of the self, or the soul. The show consisted of 24 fine art prints and photographs depicting religious rituals, portraits of clergy and laymen, and representation of bodily spirits. The show comprised pieces from three bodies of work - Glimpse, Forgive Me For I Have Sinned, and Rituals. Seen together, this work spoke about the relationship between body and spirit, the religious actions that one engages in, and how those physical actions can affect the essence of the self - the soul.
