The Artist
Tyler Gathro is a photo-based artist whose work reflects his religious upbringing and interest in theology. His imagery explores the struggles, pains, and beauties of relating to and understanding all that is divine and sacred in life. Whether through a work of art or through a documentary photo or video, the objective is the same. He aims to express the sacred in daily life, the way in which people interact with religion, and the struggle that comes with trying to understand and apply spiritual truths.

He is a graduate of The Cooper Union School of Art in New York City and Yale Divinity School where he studied photography, printmaking, documentary filmmaking, religion, and sacred and religious art. He has traveled the world as a photographer and recently spent five years teaching art and photography in both Utah and New York. He has exhibited across the country, including in New York, Florida, and Utah, and is a 2018 recipient of the Ella Lyman Cabot Trust Grant. He enjoys working in his studio, filmmaking, writing, and spending time with his wife and two boys. He grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and currently resides outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.
